Biography

Katia Velletaz started her Artistic training with classical dance and then singing at the Conservatoire de Chambéry, her home town. She then studied with Maria Diaconu at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Genève where she received her diploma in 2002. Since 2005 she keeps on increasing her knowledge with Claire Tièche in Geneva.

During her studies, her voice and musicality will bring her to start working with directors such as Michel Corboz in the Christmas Oratorio (J.S. Bach) and ables her to then take on her first roles in Baroque operas like La Purpura de la Rosa (Torrejon y Velasco) with Gabriel Garrido. She also sings for the Opéra de Chambre de Genève were she has the role of CAROLINA (Il Matrimonio Segreto/Cimarosa) and VIOLANTE in La Frascatane (Paisiello).

After she obtained her diploma, Katia velletaz performed on many different french stages like le Grand Theatre de Bordeaux, le Theatre du Chatelet, Angers Nantes Opéra, l'Opéra de Lille, le Théâtre de Caen, l'opéra de Rennes, l'Opéra Royal de Versailles, l'Opéra Comique where she was asked to take on roles like ARGIE (Les Paladins/Rameau), ACI (Aci Galatea e Polifemo/Haendel), PAPAGENA (Die Zauberflöte/Mozart), LA PRINCESSE et LA CHAUVE SOURIS (L'Enfant et les Sortilèges/Ravel), ZORAIDE (Pirame et Thisbée/Francoeur et Rebel), LUCIE (Le Téléphone/Menotti), ZERLINA (Don Giovanni/Mozart) and international stages in Madrid, Baden-baden, Vienne, l'Opéra de Lausanne to performed in roles such as SANDRINA (La Finta Giardiniera/Mozart), ISABELLE (La Capricciosa Corretta/Soler), NELLA (Gianni Schicchi/Puccini).

She was invited by le Grand Théâtre de Genève to take on the roles of La FEE ROSEE et le MARCHAND DE SABLE (Hansel un Gretel/Humperdinck) conducted by A. Jordan, LA MUSICA et EURIDICE (Orfeo/Monterverdi), un PATRE (Thannhäuser/Wagner) conducted by U. Schirmer who then invited her to Bregenz Festival to performed in operas such as Tosca and KARL V (E. Krenek).

Amongs her recent engagements, PROCRIS (Céphale et Procris/Grétry) at the L'opéra Royal de Versailles, ORIANE (Amadis/Lully) at the Opera d'Avignon, NINETTE (L'Amour des Trois Oranges/Prokofiev) at the operas in Limoges and Dijon, SERPINA (La Serva padrona/Pergolese) at L'Opéra de Lausanne, MEALA (La Mort d'Abel/Kreutzer) in Liège, La PREMIERE DAME (Die Zauberflöte/Mozart), ORIANE (Amadis de Gaule/J.C. Bach).

She therefore collaborated with conductors like Michel Corboz, G. Garrido, C. Rousset, W. Christie, E. Lopez Banzo, A. Jordan, Giovanni Antonnini, A. Cremonesi, D. Cuiller, P. Verrot, B. Tétu, U. Schirmer, P. Beran, G. Martinez, G. V. Waas, L. Koenigs, D. Stern, O. Schneebeli, H. Niquet, D Talpain, N. Chalvin.

Season 2011-2012 takes her back to the Opera Royal de Versailles in productions by Grétry and Sacchini with Le concert Spirituel conducted by H.Niquet, extracts of Iphigénie en Aulide (in the rôle of Iphigénie) and POLYXENE (first rôle) by A. DAUVERGNE conducted by D. Stern, La Vénitienne also by Dauvergne (in the rôle of LEONORE). Katia Velletaz performes in the recreation and recording of THESEE by Gossec with G. Van Waas and Renaud by Sacchini conducted by Rousset. Let's also mention "Cantates du Prix de Rome" at the Villa Medicis and at the Palazzetto Bru Zane, Euridice (Ophée/Gluck) with the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie conducted by N. Chalvin in Grenoble and also La Bayadère by Catel in Sofia conducted by D. Talpain.

Her upcoming performances for 2013 - 2014 enables her to collaborate once again with C. Rousset in Les Danaïdes by Salieri in Vienne, Versailles and Metz, G. V Waas in La Caravane du Caire by Grétry at the Opera de Liège. New discoveries with Le Saphir by Felicien David in Venise and Paris before performing once again La Première Dame (Die Zauberflöte/Mozart) at the Anger-Nantes Opera (prod. Caurier/Leiser).

Singer in residence at the Baroque Music Center of Versailles, Katia Velletaz has been involved in transmission and training projects for Baroque music in Rio de Janeiro for three years.
